Squeaky Whispers
Taylor Richard
Listen Instead of Reading:
Once upon a time, in a land far away,
A tale of gossip began to sway.
It started with a whisper, so small and light,
But as it spread, it grew with might.
The first to hear it was a tiny mouse,
Who scurried off to share in his house.
He said, "Have you heard of the cat next door?
I heard he's leaving, forevermore!"
The second mouse was curious, and he wanted to know,
So he ran to his friend, who lived next door.
He said, "I heard the cat is moving far away,
To a land of wonder, where he'll stay."
The third mouse was excited, and he wanted to share,
So he ran to his friend, who lived over there.
He said, "I heard the cat is moving to a place so grand,
Where he'll live like a king, with a crown in his hand!"
The fourth mouse was skeptical, and he wanted to check,
So he ran to his friend, who lived by the deck.
He said, "I heard the cat is moving to a place so far,
That he'll never come back, not even in a car!"
The fifth mouse was worried, and he wanted to know,
So he ran to his friend, who lived in the snow.
He said, "I heard the cat is moving to a place so cold,
That he'll freeze to death, or so I'm told!"
The sixth mouse was sad, and he wanted to cry,
So he ran to his friend, who lived in the sky.
He said, "I heard the cat is moving to a place so high,
That he'll never come back, not even to say goodbye!"
The seventh mouse was angry, and he wanted to fight,
So he ran to his friend, who lived in the light.
He said, "I heard the cat is moving to a place so bright,
That he'll never come back, not even at night!"
But the cat was still there, and he heard the tale,
He was surprised and confused, and he began to pale.
He went to the mice and said, "Why do you spread lies?
I'm not leaving, I'm staying, to your surprise!"
The mice were ashamed, and they felt so small,
They realized the harm they had caused, and they felt appalled.
They apologized to the cat, and they promised to be true,
To never spread gossip again, and to always be kind and true.
So the moral of the story, my dear friends,
Is to be careful with your words, and make amends.
Gossip can hurt, and it can cause pain,
So always be truthful, and never spread rumors again.
The end.
