A Lyon, France-based startup that develops and markets water filtration systems to make industrial water drinkable is looking for €300k from private investors to complete its seed round of €1.5 m.

🔭 Vision, Mission and History

A France-based company with strong values aims to develop access to drinking water worldwide, particularly in isolated or at-risk areas
After a year of R&D, since 2018 it has been marketing an innovative water filtration technology to industrial companies and international solidarity organizations to intervene at the earliest stage of the water cycle
The proprietary solution, which combines algorithm and hardware, automatically regenerates the filtration membranes:
Not needing for intervention, it does not use any consumables or heavy chemicals
The life of the filters is 10 years, guaranteed
It replaces existing technologies that are obsolete in less than 3 years
The team and its solution have received numerous awards in France and abroad: The solution has won prizes in competitions and has been awarded a major French label for environmental innovation
The team is composed of less than 10 people, including 3 co-founders with knowledge in industrial pharmacy, international business development with NGOs and administrative and financial management
The company generated €132 k of turnover between February 2018 and December 2019, with a forecast of €700 k for 2020 which should be exceeded: It already has 6 finalized projects, 8 projects in progress, and a strong solicitation in spite of COVID (including projects based in France)

🎯 The impact opportunity

Access to drinking water is a major issue:
A third of the world's population has no access to safe drinking water in 2017 (/
)
The amount of water available per person decreased by 30% between 1994 and 2014 ()
By 2019, unsafe water is calculated to be 20 times more deadly to children in conflict zones than bullets ()
A third of schools do not have access to water and basic sanitation
Directly linked to water, diarrhea is the 3rd cause of child mortality
Humans at the heart of a new sustainable model:
The company works in partnership with industrials to encourage them to sponsor projects for access to drinking water
The company works in collaboration with NGOs to reach the users in most need of standalone technologies

🔮 The market opportunity

The water market is expected to grow by 1 to 2 points above GDP growth, to reach USD 1,000 bn in 2025 ()
Every year, USD 260 bn are lost due to lack of water and basic sanitation. Every USD/€ invested in water and sanitation has a multiplied value:
An economic return of USD 4 per USD invested, through reduced greenhouse gas emissions, health costs, productivity growth and fewer premature deaths.
For deaths prevented alone, universal access to clean water would translate into $18.5 billion in economic benefits.
The market for industrial wastewater reuse is expected to increase by 50% between 2016 and 2020 () and only 2% of wastewater in the world is currently reused ()
Irrigation and water treatment make up 37% of a market valued at €600 million (
)
Investments in small-scale projects that provide access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation could bring an estimated overall economic gain in Africa of about USD 28.4 bn per year, or about 5% of GDP (
)

🚀 What the future holds

The funds will be used for the already established road map for the development of technical solutions, market penetration and team building:
Setting up a sales team
Acceleration of the communication strategy
Financing of the final stages of industrialization of the technology
Finalization of R&D developments in progress for 2020 - 2021
Constitution of a WCR
