A General Accounting Unit (GAU) in Salesforce NPSP is a way to track and allocate donations to specific funds or projects. It helps manage and report on how donations are distributed and used for different purposes.
Key financial areas to focus while deciding the General Accounting Units ( GAU)s are:
Revenue Sources and their respective percentage:
Grants and Foundations - 61.5%
Private Contributions - 24.6%
Special Events - 8.6%
Investment Income - 4.1%
Expense Allocations:
Marketing & Fundraising
General
Sight Services
Hearing Services

Each GAU is set to track the revenue and expense associated with it. For example, a GAU set for Sight Services can help track revenue and expenses for vision exams, eye glasses and eye surgeries
