Mission Statement
Page Not Found is a vibrant contemporary visual arts organization committed to the exploration and celebration of artistic publishing as an inclusive and transformative medium. We define artistic publishing as the creative appropriation of various means of dissemination, encompassing artist books, printed materials, LP records, radio broadcasts, digital platforms, and more. As an organization, we are committed to providing a dynamic and inclusive space that celebrates the richness of artistic publishing.
Our mission is to introduce this versatile practice to a broader audience, offering a unique tool to transcend institutional, commercial, and normative boundaries. We aim to empower individuals and communities to explore, experiment, and engage with the boundless possibilities that this practice offers.
Vision & Values
Page Not Found envisions a world where artistic publishing transcends boundaries and acts as a catalyst for diverse voices, ideas, and expressions. We firmly believe in the power of this versatile practice to inspire creativity, create economic opportunities, and engage in critical dialogue, making it an essential tool for both artists and audiences.
Our organization views artistic publishing and self-publishing as integral to a continuum of vital practices that we aim to promote across all our activities. We envision that these practices, marked by their independence and self-expression, challenge the status quo and ultimately contribute to a more inclusive society. Guided by this vision, we have identified four core values that underpin and drive our development:
Diversity and Hybridity — The landscape of artistic publishing is rich for the diversity of approaches, actors, and outcomes it encompasses. Our organisation celebrates this diversity and intends to embody it. Our approach is collaborative, aiming to engage with artists and audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds. Moreover, the artist’s book is in essence a hybrid form that benefits from being both a common object and a work of art. Hybridity is a befitting strategy for our space, our catalogue, and our programme.
Quality — We are committed to provide the best conditions for our team, the artists we invite, and our audiences. Further, our reach plan identifies the quality and diversity of our programming as a leading drive towards our activities. Therefore our team aims to meet high standards during curation and production of our activities. We carefully define budgets, schedules, and collaborations to minimise compromise. Our two directors follow the four-eyes principle to reduce risk and meet our quality requirements.
Here and Now — Our space is located in the vibrant Boekhorststraat, which bridges the city centre with the culturally-rich yet economically-challenged Schilderswijk neighbourhood. This unique position is not a passive background for our initiative, but a central element of its identity. When developing our activities, Page Not Found engages heartily with its surroundings and the local community. Moreover, our interests lie in contemporary expressions of our present condition: new forms, urgent messages, current discourse. We value situated works, ephemeral productions, and temporary configurations. Voices from the past are respected, but not revered.
Fair Space — The physical and programmatic spaces of Page Not Found aspire to be distinctive yet accessible. All of our events and workshops are purposefully free of charge. We are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all our artists, guests, partners, and staff through a shared, reflective, and open process. Page Not Found respects the artist fee guidelines and works to ensure equitable pay and safe work conditions for the staff members. We are committed to deliver aims of fair practice through a process of adjustment, transparency, access, training, and representation.
