Volunteer Terms

This page reviews information on volunteer terms at Schoolhouse, including limitations on concurrent team involvement, caps on co-lead terms, duration of volunteer commitments, recruitment cycles, off-cycle recruitment policies, and the impact of inactivity on eligibility for future volunteer opportunities.

Term Durations:

Terms typically last twelve months but could vary depending on the needs of the team. Time commitment varies team to team but typically our volunteers average somewhere between 5-10 hours of service a week.

Recruitment and Onboarding Cycles:

Recruiting and onboarding cycles for volunteer teams occur twice annually: October to December and April to June. More details on recruiting & onboarding cycles will shared in the late Spring. For now, please consult with your product team supervisor for support here.

Off-cycle Recruitment:

Teams have the flexibility to recruit for volunteer roles outside of the standard recruiting cycles as needed. In such cases, the volunteer's term will align with the next available six- or twelve-month cycle, ensuring that no term exceeds twelve months in duration. More details on off-cycle recruiting & onboarding cycles will shared in the late Spring. For now, please consult with your product team supervisor for support here.

Impact of Inactivity:

Failing to complete a volunteer term due to inactivity may affect eligibility to join volunteer teams in the future. It is important for volunteers to fulfill their commitments to the best of their abilities and maintain a positive, productive volunteer community. See the to understand the steps taken when volunteers are inactive/not contributing.

Exceptions:

In rare circumstances, a product team supervisor may make an eligibility exception for a volunteer based on the needs of the team.
