Welcome!

👋 Welcome to Coda!👏

The basic building blocks.

We can't wait for you to dive in and build great things. But before you do, we recommend taking a moment to read through some basic concepts and tips.
Tables. Tables are the foundation of Coda. And they're fundamentally different than cells in a spreadsheet. In a table, rows represent a single item (like a person, place, or thing) and columns represent attributes of a row (like a name, email, or project status). It's a bit of an adjustment to think in tables, but it's where all the magic happens.
Views. Tables can be split up into views. You can use views to present your data in different ways like alternate formatting, filtering columns, different sorts or groupings. Keep in mind that a view of a table is interconnected, meaning that edits to the data will apply everywhere automatically ー no more copy/paste.
Sections. Sections (on the left) are separate canvasses within a doc—like tabs in a spreadsheet. They help you organize your team's ideas and data for however you choose to work.
Formulas. Coda's formula language allows you to refer to your data anywhere in the document ー just hit "=" and you're off. You can refer to tables by name and use functions on them just like you would in a spreadsheet.
is the the full list of formulas.
Controls. Take your Coda document to the next level with controls, allowing you to add and interact with your data like an app.

A few tips to keep in mind. hello

Some mantras to remember as you Coda.
Don't underestimate docs. Exciting news! Your humble Coda doc could soon be as powerful as an app—custom built, just for your team. You could run a whole company with just a handful of docs. (We have.)
Tables, not grids. Tables are better than the grids of spreadsheets. Why? Because grids by definition flatten your data into two dimensions. Think Excel battleship (A1, B2, etc). Tables however are multi-dimensional. A row in a Coda table isn't just a set of coordinates, it's a bonafide entry, with depth for multiple attributes, row history, and comment threads. Even better, you can reference your data anywhere throughout your doc.
Play with your data. The more you play with data, the better you'll understand it. Coda docs have unlimited views and sections, so don't hesitate to create a new view of data to solve a problem, run a meeting, or tell a story.
Embrace complexity. Practically speaking, it's silly to shy away from complexity. Big projects are never simple or linear. We designed Coda to keep pace with your fastest-moving, most collaborative projects. So go on, go deep, customize, invite collaborators. Onwards and upwards!
We're here for you. We built this product because we've been in your shoes. Nothing gets us more fired up that helping a team run better and accomplish their goals. We're here to listen, help and support you along the way. Thanks for trying Coda 🤗
