Australian National Fabrication Facility
The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF) is a government-supported initiative that provides open-access micro and nanofabrication capabilities to researchers and industry. Established in 2007 under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), ANFF consists of a network of 10 university-based nodes across Australia, specialising in advanced manufacturing, materials science, and biomedical device development. It offers cutting-edge tools and expertise in areas like photolithography, nanofabrication, and semiconductor processing, enabling groundbreaking innovations in medtech, quantum computing, and energy technologies. The facility supports startups, researchers, and industry partners by providing access to high-tech fabrication equipment and skilled personnel.
The ANFF’s node at UNSW is in the Newton Building. Each of the ANFF nodes or hub across Sydney have different specialities/capabilities
The UNSW Node specialises in nano- and microfabrication, focusing on advanced materials, quantum technologies, and medical device development.the.The UNSW NODE provides cleanrooms, electron beam lithography, plasma etching, thin-film deposition, and advanced characterization tools. It plays a crucial role in supporting projects in semiconductor fabrication, photonics, biosensing, and quantum computing, particularly through collaborations with UNSW’s renowned quantum research groups. ANFF-NSW is a key enabler for translating cutting-edge research into commercial applications, particularly in medtech, telecommunications, and advanced electronics.
