Jazz Affects on the 20th Century

Jazz

Jazz, often improvised, developed by African Americans and influenced by both European harmonic structure and African rhythm. It was developed partially from ragtime and blues. It is often characterized by syncopated rhythms, polyphonic ensemble playing and varying degrees of improvisation. Jazz became a musical art form around the beginning of the 20th century.
Jazz during the early 20th century became known as the Roaring 20’s. An age where Jazz music really took off and became a lifestyle for most. It would influence the Flapper Movement, were women would claim their independence through dancing to Jazz music. Later in the 20th century Jazz would become useful during World War II, where musicians would either send records or travel to the war in order to boost moral for the troops.
