ActBlue

The most popular online payment system for Democratic candidates, progressive groups, and nonprofits. A nonprofit technology organization it creates standalone payment pages that clearly accept credit/debit cards. The page can be configured to request employer and job description information. Processing fees are typically ~4% plus a user selected tip.

Automated Clearing House (ACH) Payments

ACH payments are a way to transfer money from one bank account to another without using paper checks, credit card networks, wire transfers, or cash. Fees are typically much lower than credit/debit cards e.g. 0.8% compared with ~3%. Donorbox integrates with ACH payments.

is an easily configured web service that integrates with Stripe (see below) and provides a web page that can be easily configured to request employer and job description information. Donorbox charges 1.5% but only if you process more than $1,000 per month, otherwise it's free. It connects with ACH Payments, PayPal, and Stripe.

PayPal

The most popular online payment system. Basic, free level lets you create a link that can be placed on a website or shared by email or on social media. The basic PayPal payment page accepts payments by credit/debit cards but at first glance appears to require a PayPal account, that can be off putting for some members. The basic page cannot be configured to request employer and job description information. Processing fees are typically ~3%.

Square

Originally known for the small credit/debit card reader that plugged into the audiojack of a smartphone, and now enables a lot of iPads to accept payments, Square has expanded to provide web based payments solutions. Basic, free level lets you create a standalone website to sell memberships that you can link to from your website, email or social media. The page cannot be configured to request employer and job description information. Square payment page clearly accepts payments by credit/debit. Processing fees are typically ~3%.

Stripe

Not as well known as the others, Stripe is a multi-billion dollar company that provides the payment processing for other webpages and sites (including Amazon). Stripe's processing fees are typically ~3%. Stripe also integrates with Zapier, making it easy to automagically update your Airtable, Coda or Google Sheet every time you receive a payment.
