Project Title: Sustainable Design Site Analysis Using BIM
Objectives:
The objective of this project is to familiarize students with the application of BIM in conducting environmental analysis for sustainable site planning and design.
This project provides students with hands-on experience in using BIM and Environmental Analysis Application for environmental analysis and sustainable design.
It encourages them to apply their knowledge to a real or hypothetical building project and make informed recommendations for sustainability improvements.
Tutorials and Inputs:
In assisting the student to complete the assignment, they will be provided with:
Exercise 1 tutorials (Application: FormIt and Insight)
Webcasts of the exercise
Instructions:
Part 1: Project Selection
Choose a real or hypothetical building project that you are interested in analyzing for environmental sustainability. Explain your selection and why it is relevant for sustainability analysis.
Part 2: Data Gathering and Model Development
Create a 3D application, model of the selected building project using any suitable application. Prepare the model at least to LOD 100.
Gather relevant environmental data such as climate, site conditions, and energy sources for the project's location.
Import the environmental data into the analysis application.
Part 3: Environmental Analysis
Utilize the application's built-in tools or plugins to perform at least two types of environmental analysis, such as energy analysis, daylight analysis, or thermal performance analysis.
Interpret and analyze the results of the environmental analysis. Discuss how these results impact the sustainability and energy efficiency of the building and the site.
Part 4: Sustainable Design Recommendations
Based on the environmental analysis results, propose sustainable design recommendations and improvements for the selected building project. Explain how these recommendations align with green building principles.
Part 5: Presentation
Create a visually appealing A1 presentation summarizing your project, including the building model, environmental analysis results, and sustainable design recommendations. You may use diagrams and visualizations to enhance your presentation.
Submission Guidelines:
Prepare an A1 Presentation boards showing the use of FormIt and Insight in justfying your design.
The boards must be part of your final presentation boards.
Cite any external sources or references used in your project report (APA or MLA style).
Evaluation Criteria:
Your project will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Quality and accuracy of the model and environmental data integration.
Thoroughness and clarity of the environmental analysis and interpretation.
Appropriateness and feasibility of the sustainable design recommendations.
Effectiveness of the presentation in conveying key project details.
Creativity and critical thinking in proposing sustainable solutions.
