What You Will Learn (Curriculum)
Our intensive 3-day course covers a wide range of topics crucial for becoming a proficient Single Pitch Instructor:
Master advanced knot tying, anchor building (top-rope and lead-belay anchors), belay systems, and rappel techniques for single-pitch environments. Learn efficient site management and organization for various climbing scenarios. Develop effective teaching methodologies tailored for diverse groups and learning styles. Learn how to communicate complex climbing concepts and demonstrate techniques clearly. Practice giving constructive feedback and managing group dynamics. Risk Management & Safety: Understand comprehensive risk assessment strategies specific to single-pitch climbing. Learn emergency procedures, including basic rescue techniques and problem-solving scenarios. Develop robust safety protocols for all aspects of a climbing session. Professionalism & Ethics: Explore the ethical responsibilities of a climbing instructor. Understand the importance of professional conduct, client care, and environmental stewardship. Learn about the industry standards and best practices for climbing instruction. Enhance your ability to analyze climbing movement and provide effective coaching to students. To ensure all participants can make the most of this advanced training, candidates must meet the following minimum prerequisites:
Age: Must be at least 18 years old. Climbing Experience: Have a minimum of 12 months of active rock climbing experience. Efficient climbing movement: Can efficiently and comfortably lead routes at the grade of 5C-6A/+. Experienced in outdoor lead: Experienced in at least 40 lead outdoor rock climbing routes with grading requirements as follows: 5 routes of 6B (or higher) (Note: If you can comfortably climb 6b or higher, feel free to fill in all 40 routes.) 6A Onsight Experience: Must possess at least a 6A lead climbing onsight. Valid First-Aid certification: Undergone basic First Aid training and possess a valid certification. Please note: These are absolute minimums. Most successful candidates have experience significantly exceeding these requirements. If you are unsure of your skill levels, we recommend hiring a certified guide to evaluate and enhance your skills before enrollment.

The Path to SPI Certification: TCDA SPI Assessment
Upon successful completion of the TCDA SPI Course, the next step is the TCDA SPI Assessment. This rigorous 2-day evaluation is designed to confirm your proficiency in instructing single-pitch rock climbing. It's a pass/fail examination where you will demonstrate your technical skills, instructional abilities, and risk management strategies in a practical setting. It is the final step towards earning your TCDA Single Pitch Instructor certification.
TCDA SPI Assessment (2 Days)
Prerequisite: Successful completion of a TCDA SPI Course (or equivalent) within the last 3 years. It is highly recommended that candidates take time to practice and consolidate the skills learned during the course before attempting the assessment. The refund of the course fee is possible if issued within 7 days after submitting the application form, BUT not after the application period ends. The application fee cannot be refunded.
