Jewellery making and clean code are more similar than you might think. Both require a lot of patience, are labour intensive and benefit from an iterative process towards the goal. Possibilities at the beginning of the design process seem infinite but soon fall into a harmony between well considered and proven variations on themes. There are only so many ways to set a stone, and, well proven patterns will often prevail in code. It could even be argued that there is a kind of debugging process in the physical world of jewellery making, though this is more about mastering new techniques as they become necessary, ‘debugging’ your own skills through trial and error to overcome difficulties.
