Building AI teachers
Dev Aditya and Dr. Pauldy Otermans of Otermans Institute will present on the use of Small Language Models (SLMs) to build AI teachers and other teaching and learning agents. Building AI Teachers and Teaching Assistants using generalised models like ChatGPT frequently face errors, AI-generated hallucinations, and unpredictable outputs. It is best to build them using specialised Small Language Models (SLMs) as narrow use case agents perform multifold better than their general LLM counterparts. The bottleneck for SLMs remains specific and labelled datasets. We will explain how to use Knowledge Distillation and Distilled Datasets to circumvent this and how we used it to build content-agnostic AI teachers. Furthermore the talk will show how to use AI agents to reduce teacher workload, improve learner learning experience and gather data to provide personalised learner support. Can AI Teach The World? | Dev Aditya & Dr Pauldy Otermans | TEDxAngliaRuskinUniversity
A humanlike AI teacher teaching everyone globally is an exciting, yet scary and innovative idea. This is a talk about how one piece of technology can solve one of the biggest social development challenges of modern society - solving the education and skills gap. Most talks out there are about the negatives of AI, especially in education. This talk is the opposite and shows how modern technology can solve global challenges. It also shows the positive use of deepfake technology which sadly is also covered negatively in the media. Dev Aditya and Dr Pauldy Otermans are internationally celebrated educationalists who have upskilled more than 40,000 underserved learners across 10 countries since the pandemic. They were awarded by the UK Prime Minister, recognised 8 times globally just in 2021 and are spearheading 'AI in education' for the developing world.
