Exercises

Objectives:
Work on increasing timing for easier passages
Practice breaking down harder passages
Try to see how your accuracy is impacted by increasing your reading speed for easier passages.
The “ideal” time for easier passages should be around 7.5 to 8 minutes. This leaves you with about 10 minutes per passage for the harder passages.
For harder passages, put pen to paper and make detailed analysis
Review is the most important part (after you complete a passage) so make sure to be as thorough as possible!

Things to think about:
Build up a mental model of definitions over the course of the passage
Look for the way things are defined against each other.
Think about how the structure relates to the main point
Continue thinking about examples.
Review the notes from last week and continue building on how you read!
1-3 star passages. Try to read and answer all questions in under 8 minutes (target 7.5 minutes). When you get any questions wrong, work on reviewing the way we talked about– focusing on the role that info played in the argument and why you missed it. Make notes after each passage and think about ways to more effectively reach your target time.
Confidence Drill: Go through an RC section and treat each answer picked as the final answer - no wavering. Don’t be sloppy but go with the first intuition on the answer. Use this to assess your accuracy and timing with confident choices.
1-3 star passages. Timed, but with a clock counting up instead of down. Don’t look at the clock until you’ve finished answering the questions. Go at a comfortable pace, but brisk. This is to assess your base timing
4-5 star passages: Continue to work on analyzing these at a deep level. 70/30 untimed / timed practice. If you’re doing well with harder passages, adjust this ratio to do more timed practice. Do a detailed analysis, then watch the video on 7sage analyzing the passage. Make notes on relationships that you missed. Then answer the questions and try to see patterns with what they ask you about in the passage.
