We all have experienced personal or professional relationships that drain our energy, cause fear, or create an innate desire to avoid closeness. Setting healthy boundaries is an act of self-compassion, and supports healthy relationships. They require a foundation of trust, a reciprocal interest, a pattern of respect, and safety. Setting boundaries is acknowledging that as social beings, our actions and behaviors have consequences. Holding ourselves and others accountable to consequences, will establish a clear understanding of what is acceptable, and help form a mutual agreement of the rule of engagement.
