The study of the “Islands of Urban Heat” (ICU) in Durán is directly aligned with SDG 11 and SDG 13 stablished by the United Nations, since it points towards the development of sustainable cities. Understanding the intensity of the ICU phenomenon, Durán will have guidelines to face the effect in a sustainable way. These guidelines focus mainly on urban planning that considers the implementation of green areas and the design of public space; infrastructures with green shading; ecological infrastructures (parks, walkways, rain garden, etc.); use of more efficient construction materials; preventive health and disaster risk management at the neighborhood level.
