Currently, we have an ongoing hifdh program, which is a relatively casual setup where students memorize the Quran together along with other students. Additionally, we have AlMostafa's halaqa, which is a higher-level class focused on improving the quality of recitation and overall knowledge. This class significantly benefits the community by enhancing adab (etiquette) and providing advanced teaching beyond what Imam Anwer offers.
Moreover, students in the hifdh program can and should join the regular class. We can also add supplementary activities like what Hamza did in the past.
However, with the introduction of DUA, the dynamic would likely change. DUA is not just a casual group of students memorizing together. It is a structured program where individuals sign up for part-time hifdh, with professional instructors, fees, and a higher level of commitment.
This raises several questions. Firstly, what happens to AlMostafa's class? Will it cater to those who don't want to commit to hifdh or those who lack the time for the DUA program? If DUA also aims to improve recitation (assuming they do), will AlMostafa's class become obsolete or seen as a second-tier option despite its advanced knowledge?
Additionally, it’s unclear how the relationship between DUA and the mosques hosting its classes, such as Nueces, will work. Are they two separate entities with Nueces merely providing a venue, or is there more integration? This leads to potential concerns about ensuring that DUA's operations align with Nueces' expectations regarding teacher selection, student interaction, and methodology.
From my observations at other masjids, like ICBC, it seems that while DUA programs are advertised and promoted, they could have more potential. For instance, after completing hifdh, there isn’t always a clear plan for the huffadh. The focus often remains on the completion of hifdh without a follow-up on further learning or community engagement. Will Nueces adopt a similar approach, treating DUA as the primary Quranic education program without further integration, or will it be part of a broader system where students can transition between different levels and types of learning?
I have many questions about how this will work, but not many answers. Perhaps Haris or someone else familiar with DUA can provide insights into the overall DUA experience.
