Intention

medical-heart

For the purpose of pleasing Allah ﷺ and building sadaqah jariyah.

Vision

Build a pipeline for the Quran and provide support for our talent.

Mission

Background

Alhamdulillah we have established Quran classes for the brother’ and sisters. However in regards to the sisters’ Quran class, it was only attended by one (1) person throughout the whole semester. This has made sister Azzah, the teacher, feel very demotivated from our community. However, she is willing to come back if we provide support for her in regards to making a program.
This demonstrates two problems:
A low community focus on the Quran.
A lack of support and infrastructure for the talent in Nueces.
It’s important to note here that problem (1) can be due to multiple reasons such as poor advertising, a lack of knowledge surrounding the classes, fear of intimidation, and so on. It does not at all indicate that the Nueces community / college students do not care about the Quran.

Plan

Sister Faiza outlined having a monthly recurring Quran workshop that is largely focused on fixing one’s Surah Al-Fatiha.
This would integrate with the weekly Quran classes by giving people a first glimpse into the technicality involved within Quran recitation, which is needed in order to perfect one’s prayer.
Additionally, better advertising/marketing is needed in order to better portray what this workshop, and more generally speaking, the Quran classes, look like.
The rough timeline for this is to set up the logistics and infrastructure in August and to start classes in September, insha’allah.
Such classes would also be set up for the brothers, though probably after the sister’s workshop is all sorted out. Additionally, the timings are yet to be figured out as sisters classes must happen in the seminary room.
Huge thank you to Faiza for bringing this up to me and also providing the plan.

Intended Audience & Benefit

Students & young professionals: As already pointed out, our Quran programs are in low attendance and commitment.
Introducing this program represents something bigger than just a class people can attend. Developing on our Quran programs/offerings this semester can eventually lead into building a pipeline for the Quran.
Many young people have no awareness of the depth the Quran has, both in meaning, but in this, more so the technicality. A program like this, although humbling, serves to showcase this oft ignored side of the Quran, although it is needed to perfect one’s prayer.
Teachers:
Providing a dedicated program and the support of the EC on a more intimate level helps retain the people of knowledge in our community.
This inherently strengths the role that Nueces plays for the community in regards to suhbah.

Concerns

We need to market Quran class better because the usual way provides a lack of information as to what one should expect from these classes.
How can we develop such a program for the brothers (provided there is a community desire for it) & how would it logistically work with the sisters?
How can we better ensure that we treat our people of knowledge well, beyond khateebs and scholars?
Hard to have Quran class with varying levels, but a focus can bring ppl together.
Comparing Quran class to seminary, what makes one go to seminary with its rigor? We can maybe generalize this to Quran programs.
Presence of Imam Anwer
Fee? - Makes ppl more motivated if they invest a bit
Define a presence. Better marketing. (ayaan)
Marketing: wasn’t recurring. It should be recurring, perhaps not a post, but always a story. Could also outline a few key points about goals of the classes to post with reminder.
Maybe towards beginning of the summer, have an insta post with all the classes/programs that Nueces offers.
Pin limit, but could make one graphic that has all the programming and then have a highlight for each class.

Quran Class:
Absolutely worth having regardless of attendance.
