The Stages
Bonnaroo has a ton of stages. There are easily over 10 between Centeroo and Outeroo. However, the main stages where most of the talent will play are the “What” stage, “Which” stage, “This Tent”, “That Tent”, and “The Other” stage”. Yes- it is one big “who’s on first”-type joke.
The “What Stage” is the largest, and will host all the headliners. The “Which Stage” is 2nd largest, and will also host some of the weekend’s biggest acts. “This Tent” and “That Tent” are a bit of a catch-all, and lastly “The Other” is the EDM-only stage.
Fun fact about “The Other” Stage
“The Other” stage’s name is actually an homage to Glastonbury, the main festival that Bonnaroo is modeled off of. Glastonbury has it’s own “Other” stage, which is also mainly used for dance music.
Headliners
While you might see multiple names at the top of the lineup for each day, Bonnaroo traditionally has 3 “headliners”- one for Friday, one for Saturday, and one for Sunday.
As opposed to many other festivals, Bonnaroo’s headliners play [mostly] unopposed. Everyone gathers at the “What” stage, and the headliners usually play for at least an hour and a half.
The Pit
“The Pit” is a large area in front of the two largest stages (The “What” stage and “Which” stage) that allows people to get up close to the artists. At other concerts, these types of tickets are easily hundreds of dollars. But if you play your cards right at Roo, you can also be in the pit.
The pits for both stages have a line, which is usually on the left side of the stage (though it has changed in some years). For many artists - particularly earlier in the day- you can walk straight through the pit line.
If you want to be in the pit for a headliner or subheadliner, you best get in the pit line early. At least an hour before that artist- maybe even earlier. But in the past, this has typically paid off.
The Superjam
The Bonnaroo Superjam is a legendary late-night set where artists from across the festival come together for a one-time-only, collaborative performance. Each year features a new curator and theme, with surprise guests, genre mashups, and unforgettable covers. It’s spontaneous, high-energy, and totally unique to Bonnaroo — a must-see for anyone at the festival.
Who do you guys think will be joining our girl Remi Wolf for her insanely fire 1970’s pool party? Wouldn’t be surprised if we see some members from Flipturn or Royal Otis dipping their toes?
