About Me

💠A lover of modular systems

My philosophy on design systems is that they should feel like working with Lego bricks. There should be a satisfying “click” of one modular component into another. This allows for all members of the team that access the design system to easily understand and work with the system as it seamlessly connects and expands into the future. I have adapted methodologies from Brad Frost’s “Atomic Design” into every area of my life, not just design systems. A modular system is utilitarian and organized, but also allows for structured creativity that is embedded with thought and purpose. I have created several spin-offs of Atomic Design to be used for various purposes, including data digestion and information architecture with AI.

🎖️A believer that Leadership is Truly a Privilege That Should Never Be Abused

My leadership style is about taking accountability. Accountable leaders create more secure members of the team they manage. When leaders seek to immediately put the blame on their teams instead of reflecting, introspecting and taking accountability for where they may have failed their teams, the structure crumbles and the morale and quality of work diminishes. As a leader, if an outcome of an initiative is not desired, I first seek to reflect on where I went wrong as a leader. Did I not provide a good structure for my team to work within? Was I not listening enough, supportive enough? Was I not clear enough with constructive feedback? Was a team member not feeling appreciated? These are some of the many questions I seek to answer in trying to create an optimal environment for team members to work their best.

🤝A Cross-Functional Collaborator

As a Senior Product Designer I believe it’s important to master the art of cross-functional communication and collaboration. Spending time with the various members of a multi-disciplinary team to learn their practices, preferences, style of communicating, professional lingo and hopes for future improvements they have. Doing this can create a lovely quilt of teamwork that doesn’t leave large voids in communication which can lead to lower quality performance from everyone. Breaking down these barriers can create a much more harmonious team with each team member feeling like they are understood, and that their needs are being met, which ultimately leads to a happier team and a better product!

🙂 I Love to Make People Smile

Whether it’s cracking a joke, checking in on someone who’s having a bad day, or sending a derpy meme, I love to spread laughter and joy as much as I can. One of the biggest compliments I’ve received from every previous employer I’ve had, is that I made a huge difference in creating a better work culture.
