Publishing

In Soko, submitting completed work is called Publishing. In the Output tab, we can publish the work and all related files belonging to the task. Each new version needs to be published to a specific output. Outputs group multiple versions, and a task can have several outputs. For example, for a modeling task, we can have one output for a main high-poly 3D model and another for a low-poly version of this model.
We can publish either a completely new output or a new version of an existing output. To publish files, we can drag and drop them into the drop area or click on the drop area.
Let’s drop files into the drop area. We will select a New Output and then choose an output type for the file we are going to publish. For example, if it’s a model, we will choose Model.
After selecting the output type, the publish window appears. We can change the version status depending on the current status of the published version. Most of the time, the published version is subject to review by a Lead or Supervisor, but it can also be something previously approved or a work-in-progress version.
There’s also an option to add a suffix. This can help us better label and differentiate between multiple outputs. For example, for this model, we can add a “Low_poly” suffix, indicating that the model is low poly. A rig might have suffixes like “main” or “proxy.”
We can add comments on the published file so that other users know what has changed since the previous version or what has not been done yet.
When we publish files in a Soko client that has access to local file storage, a Local Publish tab appears. If the user is not connected to a local network or uses only the web application, the Remote Publish tab will be visible. By default, the “Keep Original File Name” checkbox is unchecked. This means the published files will be renamed according to the naming convention set by the project template. If we are publishing multiple files with the same file extension and need to keep the original file names, for example, for textures, we can check “Keep Original File Name.” Pressing Publish creates a new version of the output.
When we publish files remotely, we can see the progress of the publishing in the Job panel on the left. In the Upload tab, we see the status and uploading progress for each file. If our internet connection fails during publishing, we will get a “Failed” status next to the publishing job in the Job tab. We can rerun the publishing job by using the “Repeat” button.
