Solar panels turn sunlight into electricity through the Photovoltaic Effect (PV). This electricity generated is output in direct current (DC).
The Solar inverter then converts the electricity from DC electricity into AC (alternating current) electricity so it can be used by the appliances in the house.
There are 2 ways that solar can save money for our customers:
Self-consumption
Export credits
Self Consumption
Self consumption is the term used to describe when the power generated from a Solar System is being used instantaneously in the customer’s house. They are consuming the electricity the solar is producing.
Export Credits
If the customer is not using the electricity their Solar System is producing instantaneously in their home, that electricity will be sent to the grid and they will receive a credit on their bill.
In Australia, the export credits can vary between $0.05 - $0.15 per unit of electricity (kWh), depending on the specific plan and the electricity company.
