Post-Installation

In Victoria, there are 2 steps post-installation:

Safety Inspection
When the solar system is installed (in Victoria only), the installer is legally required to leave the system turned off until the safety inspection happens.
An inspector from Energy Safe Victoria will visit the customer’s house to inspect the solar installation and make sure the system is safe to be turned on. If so, he will turn the system on and send some paperwork to the installer for the next step. The Paperwork is called a Certificate of Electrical Safety (CES or COES).
The timeframe for the inspection is up to 6 weeks depending on where the customer is located.
1-3 weeks for Metro Melbourne
Up to 6 weeks for Regional Victoria
Grid Connection
When the system is turned on, the customer will be able to use the Solar energy during the day, but they won’t be able to sell the power the Solar is producing back to the grid for a credit yet.
Once the paperwork for the inspection is received by the installation company, they will submit the paperwork to the customer’s electricity distributor so they can complete the grid connection.
The timeframe for the grid-connection is up to 21 business days.
