Hour 4: Importing and Exporting Data

Part 1: Importing data from external sources

Overview of supported external sources: CSV, Excel, and Google Sheets
Procedure to import data from a CSV file:
Click the "Import" button at the top-right corner of the Airtable interface.
Choose "CSV" and browse to select the file.
Review the import settings, map the columns to the appropriate fields in the table, and click "Import".
Procedure to import data from an Excel file or Google Sheets:
Open the source file and select the data range to import.
Copy the data to the clipboard.
In Airtable, create a new table or select an existing table.
Right-click the first cell where the data should be pasted and choose "Paste".

Part 2: Exporting data to various formats

Exporting data as a CSV file:
Click the "Export" button at the top-right corner of the Airtable interface.
Choose "CSV" and select the desired options (e.g., include attachments, all fields, or visible fields only).
Click "Export" to download the CSV file.
Exporting data to other formats, such as PDF or Excel, by using third-party integrations or the print function.

Part 3: Hands-on exercise: Importing and exporting data

Students will be provided with a CSV file containing sample data.
Import the CSV file into a new Airtable base, mapping the columns to the appropriate fields.
Add and modify some records in the imported table.
Export the modified table as a CSV file and verify that the exported data matches the updated table.
In this hour, students will learn about importing and exporting data in Airtable from external sources like CSV, Excel, and Google Sheets. They will also practice importing and exporting data by working with sample files provided by the instructor.
