US Copyright Office
The Copyright Office issued a statement of policy for examining and registering works with AI-generated material. Such works may be copyrighted if they meet the standard of human authorship, but applicants for copyright registration must disclose and explain the human author's contribution.

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP)
OSTP released a blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights, which includes five principles: safe and effective systems, algorithmic discrimination protections, data privacy, notice and explanation, and human alternatives, consideration, and fallback.

National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee (NAIAC)
The NAIAC committee, composed of AI experts, issued its first report advising the creation of a Chief Responsible AI Officer role, an Emerging Technology Council, and a multi-agency task force to develop frameworks for small and medium-sized organizations to adopt trustworthy AI. The report also recommends federal agencies to adopt the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.

OSTP
The OSTP released a public request for information (RFI) regarding the potential risks of automated tools used by employers to surveil and manage workers. The RFI identified concerns such as disparate treatment of workers based on protected categories, interference with legal protections for people with disabilities, risks of physical injury and mental health distress, and potential violation of labor, antitrust, and privacy laws. Public comment was open through June 15, 2023.

EEOC
The EEOC released guidance on preventing discrimination by automated systems, stating that employers must assess algorithmic tools for disparate impact and may be held responsible for violations even if the tool is designed by another entity. Adjustment of tools to eliminate disparate impact is recommended.

Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), CFPB, and Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)
Six federal agencies have issued a proposed rule and request for comment on standards for automated valuation models (AVMs) used in real estate valuations. The proposed rule aims to set quality control standards for AVMs to ensure confidence in valuations and comply with nondiscrimination laws. The public comment period for the proposed rule runs through August 20, 2023.
