Cell
: The basic unit of structure and function of all living organisms
Microscope
: An instrument that makes the enlarged image of an object
Electron microscope
: A microscope that makes highly enlarged image by interaction of electrons with the object
Micron
: A unit of length equal to one thousandth part of a millimetre, i.e., 0.001 mm
Cell membrane
: The covering around the cell cytoplasm; also called plasma membrane
Cell wall
: Covering of cellulose outside plasma membrane in all plant cells
Nucleus
: The round structure in the cell which controls all the activities of cell
Chromatin fibres
: Thread-like structures in the nucleus that transfer features of parents to their children
Organelles
: Structures present in the cell cytoplasm to perform different functions
Plastids
: Coloured bodies; found only in plant cells
Chloroplasts
: Photosynthetic organelles in plant cells only; green in colour due to presence of chlorophyll
Leucoplasts
: Colourless plastids that store starch, proteins and fats
Vacuole
: The central water-filled space found in plant cells
