Chapter: 06. Major Crops

Crop: A plant that is grown in large quantities, especially as food.
Kharif: Crops that grow through the summer season in India.
Rabi: Crops that grow through the winter season in India.
Zaid: Crops that grow from March to June.
Loam: Good quality soil containing sand, clay and decayed vegetable matter.
Subtropical: Connected with regions that are near tropical parts of the world.
Molasses: A thick, black, sweet sticky liquid produced when sugar is refined.
Ethanol: A volatile, flammable, colourless liquid.
Bagasse: The fibrous matter that remains after sugar cane stalks have been crushed to extract their juice.
Pruning: The activity of cutting off some of the branches from a tree, bush, etc. so that it will grow better and stronger.
Sap: The liquid in a plant or tree that carries food to all its parts.
Latex: A thick white liquid that is produced by some plants and trees, especially rubber trees. Latex becomes solid when exposed to air.
