c) Tab
c) Combining two or more cells into one

II. Fill in the Blanks

Layout
AutoFit Contents

Table Styles

III. True/False Questions

False
False (It’s the Table Move Handle for moving, Table Resize Handle for resizing)
True
True
False (You can align text in various positions like top-left, center, bottom-right, etc.)

IV. Short Answer Questions

The “Layout” tab for tables provides commands for organizing the table structure, such as inserting/deleting rows and columns, merging/splitting cells, adjusting cell size, and aligning text within cells.
To select an entire table, move the mouse pointer over the table until a “Table Move Handle” (a small square with four arrows) appears in its top-left corner, then click on this handle.
You might use “Shading” in a table to visually highlight specific cells, rows, or columns with a background color, making certain data stand out or improving readability by differentiating sections.
Moving a table means changing its position on the document page, while resizing a table means increasing or decreasing its overall dimensions (height and width).

V. Diagram-Based Question

The highlighted option is “AutoFit Contents”. It automatically adjusts the width of the table’s columns so that they are just wide enough to perfectly fit all the content (text or data) within each cell, without cutting off any information.

VI. Application-Based Question

Your friend should use the Split Cells feature. To access it, they would click on the cell containing both country and capital, then go to the “Layout” tab, and click the “Split Cells” command. In the dialog box, they would specify 1 row and 2 columns to divide the content correctly.

VII. Long Answer Question

To apply a “Table Style,” you first click anywhere on the table to select it, which makes the “Design” tab (under Table Tools) appear. Then, you click and choose any of the pre-designed styles from the “Table Styles” group. The main benefit of using Table Styles is that they quickly apply a consistent and professional look to your entire table, saving a lot of time compared to manually formatting each border, shading, and font style individually.

VIII. Identifying and Differentiating Concepts

Merging Cells is the process of combining two or more adjacent cells (in the same row or column) into a single, larger cell. This is often used for creating headings that span multiple columns. Splitting Cells, on the other hand, is the process of dividing a single cell into two or more smaller cells, which allows for more detailed organization within a previously undivided space.

IX. Everyday Use

Using a table to list chores helps organize information much better than paragraphs in two specific ways:
Clarity and Readability: A table clearly separates each chore, who is responsible, and when it’s due into distinct columns and rows, making it easy to quickly see all the details at a glance. Paragraphs would mix these details, making them harder to distinguish.
Easy Comparison/Tracking: You can easily add columns for “Done (check-off)” or “Notes” to track progress directly within the structured format. This is difficult to maintain in a free-flowing paragraph format.
