When we have district-led PD, tier I schools will engage in PD from 1:25-2:25pm (prep will follow after the PD) and tier II schools will engage in PD from 3:00-4:00pm(teachers will have prep before PD). Yujin Gakuen is on a tier II schedule, so our meetings will be from 3:00-4:00.
On days when the building is leading PD, the schedule will be at our discretion. Since the building led PD is less frequent, I will assume that staff would prefer to maintain consistency and keep the same time, but this will be on our agenda on Wednesday.
More details to follow regarding Staff Choice PD, which begins October 7 (as September 9 (Individual Educator Choice) - is up to each individual teacher to use their time accordingly).

Superintendent’s Memo to be addressed in September meetings
Hold on scheduling Curriculum Night. Tom will ask Instruction for some guidelines for introducing curriculum and also find out what other schools in our region are doing.
There are a few scheduling items that require staff input. These are on the agenda for Wednesday’s staff operations/logistics meeting. For those who want to start thinking about them now, I’m outlining the information below. If staff can discuss ahead of the meeting, we can be very efficient with our time when we actually meet.
Kindergarten Social?
The kindergarten team will need to hold a Kinder Family Engagement Event. Last year, we held a special Kinderzone meeting over zoom. This year, we can hold an event on site. Before the pandemic, we had a tradition of holding a kindergarten social. That will be an option for us again. This mostly affects the kindergarten team, but other staff may have ideas to share.
Friday, PBiS Assembly
It had been our practice to hold a PBiS assembly on the first Friday of the school year in the gym. Last year, we did not hold an assembly in the gym due to COVID protocols. This year, we need to decide if we still want to hold an assembly on Friday, Sept 9. See options below:
In the gym - as we have done before COVID. This would be our first one in our new building.
Virtually - with new staff and students not used to attending assemblies, some teachers might feel more comfortable with a virtual assembly. While we are permitted to be together at one time, holding an assembly with close to 300 people in one space might feel a little unsafe to some.
Other - We could delay the assembly one week in order to prepare students for assembly behavior.
Curriculum Night
Prior to the pandemic, we held Curriculum Night on the third Tuesday after school started. Last time it was held in-person was on 9/24/2019.
6:00-6:40, Grades 1 and 2
6:45-7:25, Grades 3,4, and 5
This year the intermediate grades would be first
6:00-6:40, Grades 3, 4, and 5
6:45-7:25, Grades 1 and 2
We will need to decide if we want to hold our Curriculum Night on September 27th, following our past practice, or if we want to hold the event at another time.
Parent Conferences
In an effort to reduce the time spent processing at staff meetings, I want to address this year’s parent conferences. Instruction has set the dates for conferences: Wednesday, November 9 and Thursday, November 10. Friday, the 11th, is Veteran’s Day, a holiday. We have some options:
A - hold conferences on Wednesday and Thursday, 8-4 each day.
B - hold conferences Tuesday evening, 4-8pm, and for twelve hours Wednesday, from 8am to 8pm. As compensation for working 8 additional hours on Tues and Wed, licensed staff can take Thursday off. This would create a 4-day weekend.

Follow-Up and Updates
Curriculum Night
Tom is checking in with other schools in the North Region to see how they are doing their curriculum nights. Are they holding them? Are they virtual and how will they introduce new curriculum?
Will Instruction provide some guidance on how to introduce families to the new curriculum?
Jeanne will help with arrival, but when we start Ohayo Club, she will be with students between 8 and 8:20.
Ohayo Club - We discussed Jeanne working in the month of September with new students in first grade and a handful of other students in other grades. As long as this is a small group, Jeanne can meet with them in the Japanese Resource Room. If the group is more than 6 or so, she will need a larger space.
. If you have not yet responded, please give your input. If the majority of staff respond by Friday, I will share the results over the weekend. If I don’t hear from the majority, we will finish this discussion at a future staff meeting.
