“Most men lead lives of quiet desperation.” This is especially true for those who lead lives of lies and deceit, Lies and deceit lead to one living a stunted life; desperate for meaning. Therefore, the lies and deceit of the protagonists of Munro’s Runaway short stories demonstrate to us that lies and deceit lead one to endure poor relationships, exist with poor self-worth and falter because of poor life choices. Their lot, it would seem, is especially desperate.
