The Main Theme
The basis for the entire movement is this little Short-Short-Long idea, starting on a note, moving to a neighboring tone, and returning to the original.

The Tocsin Theme
Tocsin is an Alarm Bell. After the quiet of the 3rd movement, this film score-esque fanfare ushers in the final stretch of the piece. The terrified scurrying motif played in the low strings is interrupted multiple times by the Tocsin, which eventually fragments into short, sharp jabs coming from all the brass. These jabs break up the rhythm of the string accompaniment and all hell breaks loose.
