It was a cold start to the semester. Not because of emotion, it was just really cold. First week of classes went about as well as one could imagine. With many syllabi gone over I think I am about done with reading them. As for UAS, the Coda page for AT219 is very helpful and easy to navigate. The lecture for Thursday I did enjoy reviewing the weather services available to us and learning a bit more about the upcoming weather system. In lab we spent time reviewing another group’s Believer, specifically Group 2. There were plenty of things that needed to be fixed, the main one being the pitot tube being separated from the aircraft because of how it was put into the box. They were ahead of every other group with most of the wiring just needing to be organized and plugged into the flight controller. Outside of school work ROTC kept me busy with a supplemental instruction that I led with one of my friends for our class. Our class is training now to be ready for Field Training this summer which is 3 weeks long and requires an Enrollment Allocation in which only about 60 percent of the class will get. It is going to be a stressful semester but a fun one.
Week of Jan 19:
The week started well with a wedding that I was at up in Valparaiso for my girlfriend’s uncle. It was at Journeyman’s Distillery and was a really nice venue. Starting Tuesday with a 7:30 class (AT203) was not fun. Dr. Flores is a great professor but sometimes he goes into a lot of detail on what he is talking about and the point kind of gets lost. He makes sure though that he wants to do his best to help every student, which I appreciate. I had my AFROTC class following that in which we talked about problem solving and more specifically did a task where we had to present a course of action to stopping a convoy of insurgents transporting heavy weapons with limited information and resources to the class and our instructor. It went well and I was happy with what I presented from my group. I had work following that from two to six and was able to get some homework done. I had physical training Wednesday morning and it was a good workout. After, I had my physics lab and lecture which were definitely more calm than my morning. I had TECH120 afterword. That class is just busy work on busy work and takes up most of my time out of class. Thursday started with leadership lab at 5:15 in the morning and it was rough. Screaming and yelling right at the start getting us prepared for field training this summer down in Alabama. Had AT203 again following and it was the same old style that Dr. Flores follows. Talking about the incoming winter storm was interesting and I learned a bit/got refreshed on what we learned in previous semesters. Setting up the simulator for lab was a bit confusing at times with rereading the controller calibration and setup over and over but it all worked out. I did get my own Orqa controller so I can practice outside of being at the airport. Friday just had my physics recitation and then work from 12-4. As a whole, it was a solid week. It’s cold.
Week of Jan 26:
Its still too cold. Both of my PTs for the week were canceled and we have to do a workout on our own. Anyways, starting with Monday. It was definitely nice not having to get up at 5am to go and workout so I was able to get a bit more of sleep. My physics lecture after went fast because of one of my friends being in the same class. TECH120 lecture after that and I already despise the class. The amount of busy work assigned is pointless. After that I got some work done and talked with friends in the Air Force ROTC lounge at the Armory until we had our supplemental instruction that I lead at 7pm. Tuesday is rough starting with AT203 since it was so cold and so early in the morning. I did manage to get through the class without sleeping, so big win. AT219 was good with talking about some more weather and having weather tools that we can use for our operations.
