Tormach 24R

SOP - Tormach 24R CNC router

This standard operating procedure covers the operation of the Tormach 24R CNC router system. The router is located with the Annex-North Carpentry Lab, and inherits all safe use policies including PPE requirements.

preparation

Turn on the power to the Tormach 24R CNC router and water chiller
The tool is typically left on, but the water chiller is turned off.
wait for the integrated computer to boot
plug in the USB flash drive you uploaded your .gcode file to
copy and paste the file into the student folder
if you do not already have a named folder in the student folder, please make one now! You should name the folder according to your degree, grad year and name.

setting up the machine

run the spindle warmup routine.
Secure the workpiece to the router machine bed using the vacuum table, clamps or other appropriate methods.
Install a tool in the spindle. (TBD w. ATC)
Select a collet insert which matches the tool shank diameter.
Insert the tool into the collet. The minimum insertion depth is XXX.
torque the collet nut to XXX ft. lbs.
12 ft-lbs for up to 1mm (0.0394”) ​25 ft-lbs for 1.5-6.5mm (0.0591”-0.256”) ​60 ft-lbs for 7-13mm (0.276”-0.512”)
Establish the Z-axis location of the tool tip using the XXX routine and the Electronic Tool Setter.
Set the work X- and Y-axis zero locations.
Turn on the dust collector and install the dust skirt.

running a job

Confirm the following:
the workpiece is appropriately secured,
the router machine bed is clear of any obstructions which may cause a tool collision,
the dust collector is running and the dust skirt is installed,
required PPE is worn by everyone in the vicinity.
everyone is are behind the yellow line on the floor.
Begin the cutting process by pressing the "Start" button.
Monitor the cutting progress for the entire duration of the operation.

tool changes / running the next operation?

shut down

Remove all materials and clean the work area.
Remove and store the tool and collet.
Turn off the dust-collector; leave the CNC router on, but turn the chiller off.
