Week 11

This Week’s Bible Story

The Last Supper (Luke 22:7-30) Jesus and his disciples gathered for a Passover meal. Though his disciples didn’t know it at the time, this would be the last meal they shared together before Jesus died and rose again. He explained that whenever we eat the bread and drink the wine, we remember that Jesus came to save us!
Monthly Verse: For we live by believing and not by seeing. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:7

Let kids answer today’s icebreaker question: If you had one last meal, what would it be?

Bible Story
9:15 - 9:30
11:15 - 11:30

Look up Luke 22:7-30 and tell the Bible story in your own words.
Key Story Points:
It was almost time for a special holiday called Passover. Jesus went to his friends, Peter and John, and told them, “Go into town and look for a man carrying a pitcher of water. He will take you to a large room where we will eat dinner together.”
So Peter and John went into town. After a little while, they found the man that Jesus told them about. He was carrying a pitcher of water and he led them to a large room, just like Jesus said!
A little while later, Jesus and his friends sat down for dinner. “I have waiting a long time for this,” Jesus said. “This will be the last meal that we share together.” His friends did not understand what he meant.
Jesus took some bread and thanked God for it. Then he broke the bread into pieces and passed it to his friends. “Whenever you eat this bread, remember me.”
Then Jesus took a cup of wine and passed it to his friends. “Whenever you drink this, remember me.”
Whenever we eat the bread and drink the wine, we remember that Jesus came to save us!

Debrief
9:30 - 9:40
11:30 - 11:40

What does the bread remind us of?
What does the wine remind us of?
Why is it important to remind ourselves in this way?

Prayer Time
9:40 - 9:45
11:40 - 11:45

Close your small group time by praying with your kids. This week’s prayer focus is on PRAISE PRAYERS. Ask the kids in your group, “What is one thing you love about God?” (You may need to prompt kids with ideas.) Take time to pray for each of the things that were shared.

Activity
9:40 - 9:45
11:40 - 11:45

GAME OPTION: Divide children into two teams: a “cup up” team and a “cup down” team. On “Go” each child runs to place the cups up or down. After three minutes, tell players to freeze and count how many cups are facing each direction. The team with the most cups facing in their direction wins. Remind children that at the Last Supper, Jesus said the cup would be a way to remember Jesus’s blood shed for them—and us!
CRAFT OPTION: Pass out the activity pages and invite kids to color it in. Then show them how to fold the page along the dotted line in the middle. Then have them carefully cut a slit into the dotted lines around the “table”.
