Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:41-52) When Jesus was just a boy, he and his family traveled to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. Shortly after they left to return home, they realized Jesus was missing. Three days later they found him in the temple with the priests, listening to everything they had to say and asking them questions. The Bible says that Jesus continued to grow in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and man.

Key Story Points:
When Jesus was just a boy, he went on a trip to the big city with his parents, Mary and Joseph. But they weren’t the only ones. Lots of people came every year to celebrate a very special holiday called Passover.
When the party was finally over, Mary and Joseph packed up all of their things and went home. They were walking with lots of friends and family.
After they had been walking for a little while, they realized that they forgot something... Jesus! They looked all over but they could not find him anywhere.
After three days looking for their son, Mary and Joseph finally found Jesus. He was in the temple with the priests, listening to everything they had to say and asking them questions. The people were amazed at how much Jesus knew about God.
His mother was so worried. “Why did you do this? We were looking for you.”
“You should have known that I would be in my father’s house,” he said. But his parents did not know what he meant. Jesus kept growing in every way!

Give each child a piece of brown paper. Encourage them to draw a picture of something that happened in the Bible story today. Remind kids that before the Bible became a book, it was written down in scrolls. Invite them to roll up their paper from both ends and help them tie it shut to create their very own scroll!
