3 Speed Transmisson - Goals / guide
1st Gear: Balancing Concentration (samatha) and Investigation (vipasssana). > annica + dukkha
getting started
anapana as needed
become aware of the present moment and sensations that appear
noting > 2 methods
see the sensation
like a pitcher throwing awareness
receive the sensations
like someone receiving a hug
kinda like a frame of a painting > the noting serves as the frame but one does not need to verbalize the painting
witness arising and passing
see that all sensations appear and disappear from moment to moment > like vibrations
see reality for what it is > sensations
how could there be craving for / aversion to mere sensations?
there is nothing inherent within things > holy fuck this is emptiness lol
see the link between cause and effect
dependent origination
ignorance of annica > craving for / aversion / attachment to sensations > dukkha
dukkha > identification with the state > creating a self > ignorance of annata
2nd Gear: Self-Enquiry > annata
See that there is no self > who is it that is experiencing / receiving the sensations?
Questions
who am i
where am i
where is the solidity of self?
who does it belong to?
like a mirror reflecting on itself
if sensations are empty, isn’t the “see-er” also empty?
is there solidity in the “see-er”? where is it?
3rd Gear: Be as you are. > nondual
experiencing reality as it is, not as you would like it to be
