Unit 1

Read Chapter 3, pages 159-208. This corresponds to sections 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3.

We will begin the course in Chapter 3 of the textbook. Review Chapters 1 and 2 for background if necessary.

You should attempt the exercises in the book as indicated below.

These exercises help to establish an understanding of the concepts involved. If necessary, reread the examples and exercises solved in the book. The answers are at the end of the book.
