Unpaid Parental Leave Policy

megaphone
These pages reproduce internal policy documents, which may change from time to time and which apply to UK employees only.
Where there is a difference between these pages and the policy documents on Confluence, the policy documents shall prevail.
iwoca recognises that as a parent you might need to take some extra time off work every now and then.
We offer unpaid parental leave with a maximum of 18 weeks for each child up to the age of eighteen years old. This could be for a variety of reasons, such as:
to spend more time with your children
look at new schools
settle your children into new childcare arrangements
spend more time with family, such as visiting grandparents.

Policy details

Please see below for some key points to be aware of. More detailed information around notice and things you need to consider whilst on leave and when returning to work can be found on iwoca’s internal employee portal.
Leave must be taken in blocks of a week.
If the child qualifies for a disability living allowance, however, the leave can be taken as single days or multiples of a day.
The most leave you can take per year is 4 weeks at a time.
You should give at least 3 weeks notice prior to the requested time off.
Returning to work:
If the period of leave is four weeks or less, you have the right to return to the same job.
If more than four weeks’ leave are taken, you have the right to return to a similar job with the same or better terms and conditions.
Legally you need to have been employed by iwoca continuously for 52 weeks in order to be entitled to parental leave as defined by the government. However, iwoca also offers unlimited unpaid leave to all employees from the start of their employment, which can of course be used for parental needs.
