iwoca provides mental well-being support via Spill, it’s one of our most loved benefits.
Spill is a service that offers professional therapy, which you can easily and confidentially access through our workplace app - Slack.
Here’s a summary of what you can get from Spill:
“Ask A Therapist”. A service where you can ask a question about your mental health and then receive written advice from a professional the next day. For example, someone might write: “Whenever I get feedback at work, I take it really personally and feel panicked. What can I do to overcome this?” The counsellor will write a few paragraphs in response, which might include links to helpful tools or further reading, as well as, when appropriate, a suggestion to book further therapy.
You can access their recommended reading lists or mental health exercises and tools including tools such as a relationship audit, a goal-setting structure and a way of assessing how to prioritise your time.
You can speak with a qualified therapist either as a one-off or they might recommend a course of therapy. You can choose how you’d like to talk to the therapist (phone, video or messaging) and you can request a therapist with a specific expertise or background.
Team Check In - Team Check-in is a feature that measures your team’s mood each week and, based on this information, gets help to those who need it as Spill will reach out directly to anyone they feel may benefit from speaking with them.
Manager Clinic - Maybe as a manager you wonder how to support someone struggling with their mental health or how to create a psychologically safe working environment. Manager clinics give you a space to get together with other managers in a therapist-led session where you can share your questions and get advice.
Crisis Lines. On the Spill app there is a list of Crisis Lines, sharing who you can call when you are in need of support and they have phone numbers for anything from Anxiety, Eating Disorders, Abuse through to Bereavement.
Spill Plus One - letting you offer a free 50min video therapy session to anyone you care about.

FAQ’s

Will my interactions with Spill be confidential?
We won't receive any information on who has accessed Spill or what is shared there. We only receive anonymised usage reports i.e. X amount of hours of therapy were used across all of iwoca.
The only pieces of personal information sent through Slack are responses to your questions submitted through Ask a Therapist (for therapy questions) or Ask Spill (for customer service questions). You can delete these responses from your Slack history by deleting the response once you have read the answer. A button at the end of this message clearly prompts users to delete the response once they’ve read it.
What qualifications do Spill therapists have?
All Spill therapists are registered with BACP, UKCP, or another UK Standards Authority governing body. Every Spill Therapist has completed at least three years of academic therapy training and has at least 100 clinical hours under training supervision. Most of their therapists have been practising for decades.
How many sessions of therapy will iwoca fund for me?
Everyone's needs will differ, so there are three services available:
Unlimited access to Spill’s Ask a Therapist question forum
A single therapy session, which may be enough to help you figure something out
A course of six sessions, if you need more ongoing support. This would be determined by you and your therapist after an initial session.
When you register through the Slack app, Spill can give you guidance on the service best suited to you depending on how you are feeling. If you need anything beyond that, you should talk to your People Partner and we’ll come up with a plan together with you. Your well-being is a priority.

Some testimonials from iwocans that have used Spill

“I thought the Q&A (Ask a Therapist) service was really impressive. I ended up sharing the response to my question with a few friends who also thought it was really useful and interesting. I would definitely recommend it."
"I had a one off session yesterday. I have to say I liked the process and made it very easy from signup to joining the call. As someone who has never used any sort of therapy before I think the real value is the ease of people like me who would normally not bother to give it a go."
"Was incredibly easy to set up. The therapist was great at setting up ground rules around confidentiality. The session was honestly the best first one I've done. (The therapist) allowed me to talk, showed empathy and was great at listening without taking control. I got concrete, achievable and useful next steps which were directly relevant to what we ended up focusing on - rather than generic advice. So highly recommend picking up Spill"
