Week 13: April 13th - April 17th

AT 219 Autonomous Aircraft Technology and Maintenance 2

This week, we had no true lectures. On Tuesday, we tried to fly our group’s Believer, PUB06; however, during the launch, our drone pitched up and would not follow commands from the transmitter, and crashed. After a thorough debrief and investigation, at some point our servo parameters were flipped on the cube. Therefore, when we were telling the aircraft to pitch down, the aircraft thought that meant pitch up. This caused the aircraft to enter a stall and then a spin straight into the ground. On Wednesday, my group worked on repairing the aircraft, which we were able to do by the end of the day. On Thursday, during our normal lecture time, we had a formal group debrief to prepare for the next lab section.

AT 319 Unmanned Aerial Systems Applications, Data, and Documentation

This week in AT 319, I continued working on the lab that was assigned last week. After this lab was finished, we worked on a scavenger hunt using ESRI ArcGIS Online. This was to show us how ground control points work. We set up the map on the computer, assigned groups for trees, roads, bikes, etc. Then, we went around the Purdue University Airport to take pictures and tag their location. Finally, my partner and I attempted to fly our mission for the final on Thursday. However, due to the winds picking up, we decided to call it a no-go flight. My partner flew the mission again on Friday.

AFT 361 Leading People and Effective Communication

This week in AFT 361, we had no lecture on Tuesday. On Thursday, we had more informal briefings that went the whole class period.

AT 381 Aviation Security

This week in AT 381, we only had two lectures. On Monday, we continued with our Case Study Overviews, and then on Wednesday, we went to the new Amelia Earhart Terminal at Purdue University Airport. At the terminal, we were given a TSA tour and got to ask real TSA agents questions and see more about what it looks like behind the scenes.

Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps

This was our second-to-last week in the semester for AFROTC. On Monday and Wednesday at Physical Training, we took our Physical Fitness Assessments. Freshmen and Juniors went on Monday, and Sophomores and Seniors went on Wednesday. I scored a 96.1 on my PFA score. On Thursday, we had our final LLAB. This is meant to be the final examination of all we have learned throughout the year. We had our final quiz, which contained basic warrior knowledge to more complex expeditionary skills. We drilled and were given GLPs to test our leadership and followership skills. Finally, we completed Open Rank Inspections and Flight Drill Evaluations. In addition, I took the TBAS on Monday, which is the Test of Basic Aviation Skills. This test is crucial when going up for the boards for a pilot slot.
