Week 11: March 30th - April 3rd

AT 219 Autonomous Aircraft Technology and Maintenance 2

In AT 219, we read and discussed two article.
This week in AT 219, we finished up building, modifying, and preparing our drone for flights. Next week, if the weather permits, we hope to fly out fixed-wing drones. Our professor gave us a checklist of things that needed to be done before they would sign off on allowing us to fly. For this checklist, we registered our drone and remote ID. In addition, we inspected our CG, control surfaces, fuselage, pitot, wings, and tail. We ensured we were getting the health and readings for all systems. For the DATX, we calibrated the gimbal, charged batteries, ensured we had the correct models. We also calibrated all our systems and tweaked any firmware that needed to be fixed. We also performed a test on the motors and propellers to confirm the power and direction of propellers.

AT 319 Unmanned Aerial Systems Applications, Data, and Documentation

This week in AT 319, we focused on classification. Classification involves partitioning raster data into thematic classes. In lecture we dived further into supervised and unsupervised methods. In lab, we got to practice classification in ArcGIS Pro primarily using the Image Classification Wizard. We learned about the steps that go into supervised classification like preparation, training samples, signature files, classification algorithm, running, and refining. Below is the map created in this process.

AFT 361 Leading People and Effective Communication

In AFT 361, we had one lecture on critical thinking. For this briefing our instructor had us split into groups and brainstorm problems in the Air Force and come up with creative solutions to help reduce them. My group picked burnout in enlisted members. Some solutions we came up with was better housing options for younger Airman, career shadowing programs for Airman before they enlist to help them pick suitable jobs. For our second lecture of the week, it was dedicated to the start of our Advocacy briefings.

AT 381 Aviation Security

This week in Aviation Security, we discussed General Aviation Security. In this lesson we dove into the key threats to GA, identified the economic impact and operation scope of GA, and recognized the challenges in regulating GA security. Finally, we described post 9/11 security changes and how they affected GA.

Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps

This week our first PT was dedicated to a 45 minute long debrief of the OBM that happened over the prior weekend. Our second PT was a cardio focused workout to prepare us for the fitness test we take in two weeks. At LLAB, we performed drill as a group, Flight Drill Evaluations, Open Rank Inspections, and go to attend a promotion ceremony for one of our cadre.
