Designer Expectations

Turn up everyday 💪

More than anything, the thing that makes Lantum successful and our jobs more enjoyable is when we put our all into it. Everyone who’s been to a restaurant and dealt with a shitty waiter or been on hold for hours knows how much it sucks when people just don’t try at their jobs.
We value hard-work and a positive attitude. Whatever else happens may that it always be said of the design team is that we try our hardest and always turn up with a positive attitude.

Design is a team sport ⚽️

The best products are not built by a single person or department. We believe that design works best when it partners with our friends in Product and Engineering (and beyond) to work collaboratively. It’s not only our job to deliver elegant solutions to problems, but to also help others bring their ideas to life and not shut people down because “i’m the designer!”.
We value collaboration and actively seeking feedback. By creating tight feedback loops with both our team and users, we can improve our designs.

Understand fully, care deeply ❤️

Our users are complex and diverse. We serve clinicians and managers across lots of departments and practices, who have ever changing needs and complexities. We also need to recognise that Lantum is just solving one set of problems that they encounter every single day, working in a huge organisation that is constantly under stress and at breaking point.
We value understanding how our users (and colleagues) think, how they feel, and what they want so we design effective solutions that can change their lives.

Get concrete. Get aligned. Get moving. 🏎

It’s hard to imagine something that doesn’t exist and share that idea. Almost certainly when you describe a concept, problem, or idea to someone they are imagining something different in their head. As designers we have a magical set of skills to take something from the abstract and make it real.
We value getting our ideas out into sketches/prototypes etc over discussions in the abstract to get things moving even if we don’t feel the idea is the best or even the right approach.

Strong opinions, held loosely 🤔

You’re on this team for your opinions. Passion, creativity, and gut instinct is a big part of being a designer. But often we can forget that we aren’t the sole “voice of the user”. We encourage each other to have strong opinions, disagree, and put strong reasoning forward respectfully. But that means nothing if we can’t change our mind or come to a compromise.
We value having passion for our ideas. We think critically about ideas, be them our own or others, always being respectful and knowing that we can always change our mind – and that’s OK.

Diversity and understanding 🙏

have shown more diverse teams lead to better outcomes for everyone. As designers we value diverse peoples and opinions in everything we do. We think consciously about what we say and how our actions may exclude others. We also help others improve their understanding of diversity, helping them learn instead of punishing them,
We value tolerance, understanding, and diversity of thought and being. We know that it’s our individualities that make us stronger, smarter, and Lantum a more enjoyable place to design.
