Why run in high altitudes?

Training in high altitude can greatly benefit long distance runners. When training at high altitude, the body is exposed to lower levels of oxygen, which stimulates the production of red blood cells. This increase in red blood cells allows for more efficient oxygen delivery to the muscles, resulting in improved endurance and performance. Additionally, training at high altitude can also improve the body's ability to buffer lactic acid, which can delay the onset of fatigue during long distance runs.
The Andes mountain range in South America is an ideal location for high altitude training for runners. The high altitude and rugged terrain of the Andes provide a challenging environment for runners to train in, which can help improve their overall fitness and endurance. Additionally, the Andes are home to several active volcanoes, which release sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.
