. We try to get out of the city on these occasions.
Off-sites can also be done over 3 nights to cut costs by about 20% by removing the hackathon element. I believe it is an important part, and in my experience running Off-sites, people always wish they had more time.
Most of the planning is taken for you. Accommodations, meeting spaces, agendas, and social outings will be planned and communicated well in advance. Depending on travel arrangements, you may need to book flights, but we will tell you at least 6 weeks prior. Off-site times are locked in before each CY.
It's time to get to know your colleagues on a deeper level, but we also take the time to work on our culture, solve problems we face in the business's day-to-day operations, and plan our OKRs for the next Quarter. We occasionally bring in guest speakers to bring a unique perspective that can relate back to our core values.
While these opportunities are a great way to bond with colleagues, they are also about achieving objectives. We are super conscious that we are asking you to spend 2 weeks each year away from your families, loved ones and pets so we endeavour to make it an experience that can benefit your daily work.
This is our opportunity to develop our team, fix issues and get everyone on the same page. It's our most significant opportunity to unlock you to your life's best work so far.
Typical Agenda
A couple of structured social events
Team Dinners + Lunches
Half-day hackathon
All-hands strategic sessions and workshop
All-hands culture exercises
A small amount of downtime so people can relax and reset
All Hands
We hold an All Hands Meeting on Fridays at the end of every week. Everyone at the company gathers in the office to hear about product development and business operations, celebrate new hires, give kudos and anything else worth sharing.
Adam or Chaz runs the All Hands, but many people across departments may present on topics close to them during the meetings. Doug will send a sharable deck to include any inputs before the meeting.
Team Events
Team Lunch
On Wednesdays, we have team lunches. Everything is organised. We keep track of all dietary requirements in your onboarding forms, and please let us know if anything changes.
Team building event
Every Quarter, we organise a team-building event. In the past, we’ve done Amazing Races, Casino Nights, Open Air Cinemas, and Overnight Hikes and camping trips. This ties into our OKR planning or Retros.
Community Events
Hatch is nothing without its community of Hatchlings who aspire to find work they love and our network of talent managers, founders and companies helping them achieve those goals. We often host events with our partners to bring our community together. These are not compulsory but are all open for employees to attend.
