Software Engineering at Trading Firm

Applying for Software Engineering at a Quant / Trading firm is almost identical to that of a standard tech company, with the main differences being the type of work and difficulty of the application process.

Resume Building

Due to the limited quantity of roles and tough competition, without a good resume it is really hard to get past the resume screen, even if you perform well on the online assessment
That being said, it is important to display previous experience applicable to the role as well as showing analytical problem skills (perhaps geared more towards math)

Preparing

Leetcode is always a good place to start. Prepping more along the lines of Mediums to hards will prepare you better for OA’s and interviews alike. Furthermore, it always helps to read about nuanced algorithms and techniques. Cracking the coding interview is a good book as already mentioned in , but you would also want to go a little further. The “Competitive Programmer’s Handbook” by Antti Laaksonen is a great book ()

System Design

Another key difference is that for SWE at Quant they have a broader range of topics asked. This could include systems design which could also be asked in software engineering generally. Make sure to study this and be ready to answer questions on building complex systems.
