RBK: Fri at 10:30
Grace Presbyterian microhomes
Petition has 63 signatures (majority from Nextdoor)
Dan connected with Donna Columbo from the city’s homelessnes task force, she was glad to hear we exist & are supporting
Pre-app has been submitted to the city, which has not provided any feedback yet (likely due to turnover in staff)
Next step: PlanComm, which can grant the permit without the Council getting involved (however, it could get appealed)
Likely timing: end of March; Dan drafted a letter
Seven Hills Ranch?
Housing Elements
Dan connected with Donna Columbo from the city’s homelessnes task force, she told him that work has commenced & the city has an ad hoc committee that will be giving an update to PlanComm on 2/10 & then Council on 2/15
Dan has also joined the homelessness task force
Early meetings are a good opportunity to provide proactive suggestions: neighborhoods to prioritize, policies to consider, flagging existing policies that are barriers to meeting the city’s housing needs
Things HCD has flagged in rejecting Housing Elements in Redondo Beach, Beverly Hills, and Davis
Cities need stronger findings that non-vacant sites are likely to be redeveloped in the planning period
Cities need to make commitments to implement policy changes, not just “study” or “consider” doing so
Cities need to demonstrate connection between their programs/policies & sites inventory to fair housing
Happy Hour on Feb 17?
Confirmed
January 31, 2022: Walnut Creek Housing and Community Development Council Committee Special Meeting - Karen
Will be updating both HE and Safety Element
This was a general overview meeting
They will have 4 stakeholder engagement meetings
Property owners
Non profit orgs
Fair housing
Developers
Outreach will occur before drafting
Establishment of safety committee → made up of city staff + outside agencies
2 public workshops → March and April
Community survey → we create programs based on issues identified by community
Believe existing zoning will be able to accommodate RHNA numbers
Housing sites analysis will occur at the same time as community engagement
Working with ABAG and Contra Costa County to gather information collaboratively and reach social service agencies
Says no fire zones in WC
Public Comment notes: I’m curious what the plan for public engagement is around the housing sites inventory will the city be having specific workshops surrounding this or utilizing things like the balancing act to get community input. Also wondering if much of the climate policies will be reflected in the safety element or if the city plans on incorporating climate resiliency in the HE . Also would love to connect in regards to climate resilience and want to make sure that it is prioritized during this process. → more information on website
