Guyana (defenders info)

Background

Guyana ratified the Escazú Agreement this year, on April 18th.

The environment

Guyana’s environment matches similarly the coastal environment of the carribean, but also that of the Northeastern South America in its southern regions.
The country is extremely close to the equator and the carribean, leaving it extremely vulnerable to rising temperatures and tropical storms.
Among Guyana’s most environmentally destructive industries are various International fossil fuel and mining companies, as well as a large cattle export industry. All ecological problems commonly attributed to fossil fuel extraction, mining, and excessive cattle production can be attributed to this region.
