Background info

After more than a year of signing the agreement, the Government of Guatemala has not ratified its
commitment.
According to the Department of Social Communication of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (Minex), the document is analyzed by several institutions
such as the Ministry of Environment, the National Council of Protected Areas and office of the Human Rights Ombudsman.
The Foreign Ministry added that, if it receives the support of these institutions, it will
sent to the General Secretariat of the Presidency to be sent to the congress for approval.
