Dear (name of the reciever),
We Fridays For Future Digital are an international climate justice organisation, who are determined to find creative, inclusive and long standing solutions to the current climate breakdown. We have been closely paying attention to the recent Cyclones that have devastated communities and we believe that the destruction caused by the deadly force needs to be stopped.
Cyclone Tauktae took place between the 14th of May and 19th May 2021. The deadly, tropical cyclone affected areas in India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Cyclone resulted in 174 deaths (169 deaths in India and 5 deaths in Pakistan) and 81 people are missing. It was reported that in only Gujarat, 16,000 houses were damaged.
Only 5 days later, Cyclone Yaas struck Bangladesh, India and Nepal. In West Bengal, more than 4,500 villages were damaged. 2 individuals were killed by uprooted trees. Agricultural land was affected and 120 village settlements in Odisha were heavily flooded. In Khulna (Bangladesh), 5,000 were left homeless.
India is especially vulnerable as 14% of its 1.3 billion population lives in coastal districts, and the number living in coastal areas below 10 metres elevation is forecast to rise threefold by 2060.
Many scientists believe that if sea levels continue to rise, the damaging effects of the cyclones will only be exacerbated. This is why action is vital; so current sufferers of this tragedy are given adequate support and so that we can prevent catastrophes like this in the future.
Luckily, Fridays For Future Digital has accumulated some digital protests you can do right now. First of all, we have put together a toolkit which aims to educate and mobilise people all around the world. There you can find a brief science behind cyclones, tweet templates, our research and much more! Also, in the toolkit are quick petitions that urgently need your and your loved one’s signatures.
Would you also be willing to chip in and donate to some fundraisers? It doesn’t matter whether it is some spare change or a big sum of money - all donations will positively impact the communities hurt by the cyclones.
Lastly, there will be a webinar on Friday 6th August at 2pm GMT! This action call will be available for anyone to attend and will have an arrangement of activities from presentations to kahoots! In addition, Ilan Kelman, a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for International Climate and Environmental Research - Oslo, is going to be a guest speaker at the webinar. He has given talks on the Cyclones in Bangladesh and has released many books about the irrefutable link between human action and climate breakdown.

We can no longer be bystanders to human suffering. Time is ticking and we need to urgently abandon the unsustainable system of the present day.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email. We hope that you will take action and will remember the, at least, 176 people who were tragically killed by the cyclones.
Solidarity with the people and the planet,

Dear (name of the reciever),
We are writing to encourage you to take action and support the Cyclone Tauktae and Yaas victims. We Fridays For Future Digital are an international organization that acts as a pressure group against governments and corporations that are unwilling to change their unsustainable ways. In order to achieve climate justice we need passionate voices to rise - are you willing to do your part?
On the 14th May to the 19th May, Cyclone Tauktae struck violently in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives. At least 174 lives were lost in that period of five days and 81 people are missing. Furthermore, infrastructure was damaged by the severe winds; 4.6 million people in just Maharashtra (a state in India) suffered from power cuts.
Not even a week later, Cyclone Yaas affected areas in India, Bangladesh and Nepal. 5000 people were left homeless in Khulna (Bangladesh) and approximately 500,000 people were displaced in West Bengal as 1,100 villages were drowned by the floods.
So much suffering has endured and many scientists worry fatal events like this will become more frequent. Climate models predict intensity of hurricanes will increase as wind speeds can potentially increase by 2-11 percent and rainfall rates during these storms are projected to increase by about 20 percent.
This means the death tolls and destruction is only set to increase but we at Fridays For Future Digital believe we can change that with your help! Firstly, we have created a free to access toolkit where you can find our research, articles about the cyclones and many fast digital actions you can take. Not only can you use this toolkit to widen your knowledge, you can also share the toolkit with loved ones so the victims of these horrific cyclones get the urgent support they deserve.
Another way you can participate is through signing and spreading the petitions that are available in the toolkit. You are only one signature away from amplifying the message that needs to be clear in society - we will no longer let governments and corporations destroy our environment. Would you like to help even further? Fundraisers are a great way to provide direct relief to the communities affected and any amount will be widely appreciated!
Friday For Future Digital has also organised a webinar that will take place on Friday 6th August at 2pm GMT. There will be everything from kahoots to presentations! To add onto that, our brilliant guest speaker is Ilan Kelman, a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for International Climate and Environmental Research - Oslo. Kelman is the author of Disaster by Choice: How Our Actions Turn Natural Hazards Into Catastrophe and has done several talks for What makes it tick? about natural disasters and the climate.
If you would like to know more about our campaign you can check out our social media platforms, instagram - fff.digital, tiktok - fffdigital, twitter - fff_digital, Facebook - fffdigital. If you have any questions/ queries or would like to reach out please contact @heather.gets.climatey on Instagram or on telegram @heatherdoyle06.
We demand that the victims of cyclones get the relief they desperately need. We demand that governments build sufficient protection against future cyclones that is accessible to all communities. We demand that the elite no longer exacerbate the current climate crisis that will only in turn exacerbate the deadly force of the cyclones.
All we need now is for you to use your voice to tell governments and corporations that you too demand these aims from them.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email and we hope you take action with us,

Hello (Name of the reciever),
We are climate activists from around the globe, from the international climate justice organisation - Fridays for Future Digital. We are determined to build solutions around the climate crisis, and requesting you to help us amplify and take action with us, to help the victims of the wrath of major cyclones that occurred in India.
Cyclone Tauktae, a supercyclone, happened between the 14th May and 19th May 2021. The deadly, tropical cyclone devastated areas in India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Cyclone resulted in 174 deaths (169 deaths in India and 5 deaths in Pakistan) and 81 people were reported missing. It was reported that in only Gujarat, 16,000 houses were damaged.
Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Yaas, occurred on 23rd May 2021 and ended on 28th May 2021, was a relatively strong and very damaging tropical cyclone that made landfall in Odisha and brought significant impacts to West Bengal during late May 2021. 20 fatalities were reported.
Climate change could lead to more locations being affected by tropical storms. Warmer seas could cause the source areas (the areas where the storms would form) to extend further north and south of the equator. In addition, sea level rise is likely to make tropical storms more damaging with increases in coastal flooding and subsequent storm damage along coasts.
The were inundated with saline seawater after Yaas had moved inland, raising fears of potential damage the forest ecosystem. The seawater filled 53 of the 54 freshwater ponds within the forest, cutting off supply of uncontaminated drinking water for wildlife and forest workers; the stated the flooding in the Sundarbans was the worst in 14 years.
We need you, yes you, to take action with us, to prevent future harm. Join us, Fridays for Future Digital, to take concrete digital action against climate crisis.
