Class Citizenship
Description
Your class citizenship grade is determined based on your attendance, participation, and engagement with the course. Per the course attendance policy, this course allows up to 4 absences without penalty, regardless of reason. After that, penalties accrue. Each additional absence deducts 2 points from a student’s Class Citizenship grade. See the full attendance policy for additional information. Coming to class late disrupts other students and inhibits your learning. Therefore, tardiness will also affect your class citizenship grade. Active, engaged participation is another essential component of this course. I will evaluate your engagement and participation throughout the semester to determine your Class Citizenship grade. If there is any way that I can help you to feel more comfortable participating in class, please let me know. You are expected to communicate politely and respectfully at all times throughout this semester. Alternative viewpoints are welcome in this class; however, statements that are deemed racist, sexist, homophobic, classist, or otherwise discriminatory toward others in the class or outside the class will not be tolerated. In accordance with the inclusivity policy, you are to address all members of the class using their preferred names and pronouns. Please use electronic devices respectfully and refrain from accessing social media, completing work for other classes, or doing anything on your devices that could be distracting to other members of the class. Make sure all sounds are turned off. Disrespectful or inappropriate behavior will affect your class citizenship grade. Students who engage in any acts that result in disruption of class may be directed by the instructor to leave the class for the remainder of the class period. Students engaging in disrespectful, inappropriate, or disruptive behavior may be referred to the Associate Vice President for Student Life & Dean of Students for violating the Student Code of Conduct.
Minor Assignments
Description
Minor assignments include reading quizzes, discussion posts, and other short writing assignments. For most class periods, you will be expected to complete a minor assignment. These assignments are intended to ensure that you are actively reading, prepare you for class discussions, and build the skills needed to create your Projects and Portfolio. Some assignments will be completed in class, while others will be assigned for homework.
